Contact UsOur Mission: Cultural & Linguistic Authenticity
In Japanese culture, a name is never just a sequence of pleasant sounds. It is an intricate art governed by stroke counts (seimei handan), legal registry constraints (koseki), era-specific naming traditions, and semantic kanji combinations.
A vast majority of online generators produce random syllables that sound vaguely Japanese but carry no real cultural basis in Japan. Our mission is to solve this by providing novelists, screenwriters, game developers, TTRPG players, language students, and parents with verified Japanese names backed by authentic etymological context.
Data Sourcing & Legal Compliance
Every name, kanji character, and surname in our database is cross-referenced with established Japanese demographic and legal standards:
1. Japanese Family Register Act (Koseki-hō 戸籍法): In Japan, given names are legally restricted to characters from the Jōyō Kanji (常用漢字) list of 2,136 regular characters, the Jinmeiyō Kanji (人名用漢字) list of ~860 personal-name characters, and Japan's phonetic kana syllabaries. We strictly adhere to these standards.
2. Demographic Frequency Weighting: Rather than using flat random selection, our algorithms reflect natural demographic distributions across Japan's prefectures (e.g., Satō, Suzuki, Takahashi) and provide historical filtering across Modern, Showa, and Edo periods.
Human Expertise & Editorial Standards
Our database and educational guides are curated and audited under the direction of Kenji Tanaka (JLPT N1), a Japanese onomastics researcher specializing in kanji etymology and historical naming practices.
We maintain strict verification standards to ensure character readings, historical context, and gender associations are linguistically sound and culturally respectful, as detailed in our editorial policy.
What This Site Is Not
We are a linguistic research and creative naming platform. We are not a certified government registration body, a legal naming service, or an official document verification agency. While our data is rigorously researched, official legal registrations or permanent kanji tattoos should always be confirmed with a native Japanese speaker or professional translator.
